Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Job Description

We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and motivated Direct Support Professional (DSP) who is committed to providing high-quality care to our clients. The ideal candidate is patient, respectful, and caring, with strong communication skills and the ability to follow individualized care plans and company policies. Position Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with daily living skills

  • Ensure client safety, dignity, and respectful supervision

  • Provide attentive, person-centered care

  • Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner

  • Maintain strict client confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Completion of required training (Home Care Pulse)

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Pay & Work Details

  • Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour

  • Pay Frequency: Weekly

  • Expected Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts

  • Work Location: On-site (not remote)

Position Overview

Join our dedicated team as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or health challenges. In this role, you will provide compassionate, individualized care that promotes independence, safety, and overall well-being. This paid position offers valuable hands-on experience in patient care, assisted living, and community support while working alongside a passionate and supportive team.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, and grooming

  • Administer medications according to care plans and HIPAA guidelines

  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with cooking and meal planning based on dietary needs

  • Support clients during home activities and community outings to encourage independence and social engagement

  • Maintain accurate documentation, including care notes, observations, and incident reports

  • Perform light housekeeping to ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or Alzheimer’s is strongly preferred

  • Experience in assisted living, home health, hospice, or long-term care settings is beneficial

  • CPR and First Aid certification required; additional patient care training is a plus

  • Familiarity with care plans, medication administration, and vital sign monitoring

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and professional standards of care

  • Experience with mobility assistance, including Hoyer lifts, is advantageous

  • A compassionate, patient, and dependable attitude with strong communication skills
